Brief History of the Pocket Knife
You know, a lot of folks don’t know it, but the pocket knife has been around a long time, ever since the first century in fact. And though their survival and craft throughout the ages could easily be attributed to their multitude of usefulness, the history of the pocketknife is somewhat of a rocky road. Historians attribute the creation of the first folding pocketknife to first century romans. They were easily carried and stored by soldiers during exploration and conquests. But, with the rise in popularity of sheathed knives, the foldable counterpart would be used little until the sixteenth century. Colonization of the American Colonies made them essential to everyday life. And though they still serve such purposes today, cultural progress with technology and safety restrictions have made pocketknives a way of old. Nonetheless, it has become a tradition among men to keep the pocketknife around; a tradition I expect to continue into the future.
